Madagascar has a very big energy potentiality which a big part still remains to exploit.

The Petroleum :

Potential oilfields are in the course of evaluation .Big companies (ExxonMobil) already settled down in the island to investigate these deposits with offshore or onshore techniques.

The Coal :

The deposits of coal in Madagascar are still unexploited (Document)

The hydro-electric power :

In Madagascar, 7,800 MW is potentially available, only 115 are exploited at the moment.

Demand of energy and some hydraulic potential

Modalities for the investors

The wind energy :

With a speed of wind superior to 8 m/s in the North, the East and the Southeast of Madagascar, the wind energy represents a big opportunity.

The solar energy :

Madagascar possesses an incidental energy of 2,000 kwh/m2/year and a nearby average period of sunshine of 2,800 hours/year. The West and the Southwest are particularly suitable for the solar energy.

Biofuels :

Madagascar introduces the new technologies of the production of biofuel (biodiesel and éthanol). The NGO and private companies dash into the plantation of jatropha for the biodiesel and sugar cane for the production of éthanol. The big surface and the climatic status make of this sector one of the most promising. The NGO 'Green Island Association', in collaboration with the Civil Service, makes praiseworthy one effort for the first steps of the plantation of jatropha.
