In Madagascar the politics of development is based on a liberal economy with an industrial sector accounting for appreciatively 13 % of the GDP (INSTAT and Index of the industrial production of the companies of the common regime).

This politics is leaded in dialog with International Institutions: The World Bank and the FMI, and also with bilateral and multilateral partners.

 

1- The industrial sectors:

a- The food-processing industry

Madagascar, a country with an agricultural vocation, wishes to increase the added value for the products in this sector. The transformation of the agricultural matters into seùi-finished products is thus a carrying sector.

b- The textile

 The setting up of frank zones eis an advantage for the investors; Moreover Madagascar benefits from the opportunities offered by the American law on the Growth and Opportunities in Africa (AGOA).

c- The craft industry

Wood, stones, skin and horn of zebu, fabrics, raffia, sisal,silk, invaluable wood are materials that the Malagasy craft transform into true treasures. Most of the Malagasy craftsmen work full-time and 68 % of them works at home.

Since ten years this craft industry took an economic and professional dimension..

Madagascar is a country having a string craft potential because of a  world return to nature and authentic materials.

d- The energy: hydroelectric and coal

Within the increase in the energy request the Energy Sector is destined for a string development. The potentialities of Madagascar in these fields are immense.

 

f- The communication and information new technologies

This is a new and in full rise sector. It includes at the same time service firms for data processing maintenance, data management and operators (telephony, internet). The number of such firms is in constant increase. The multiplication of the number of prospective customers makes of this sector a promising field.

 

2- The international exchanges

Currently the main partners of Madagascar are: France, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States.
