Introduction

According to its insular situation Madagascar benefits from the maritime and continental halieutic resources.

 

 

Situation

Madagscar has:

- 55,000 km of coasts which are favourable to the inshore fishing activities

- 250,000 ha of plane for the semi-deep-sea fishing's

- 52,000 ha of mangroves usable for the aquiculture

- 155,000 ha of fresh water

From all the islands of the Indian Ocean Madagascar is th one with the most important surface of sea fishing zones, increased by mangroves mainly located on the West coast.
